Children and Motorbikes

Some families love motorbikes and each family member participates in riding on a motorbike. A lot of children grow up in a home where a motorbike is just another part of their life. They become accustomed to a motorbike had a very early age and become proficient motorbike riders and may even become a lifelong motorbike enthusiast.

Almost any child would love riding on a motorbike. He had to ask yourself why you enjoy riding on a motorbike and then you will understand why children love it as well. There is definitely something to be said about the open and independent feeling that riding a motorbike can give the rider. It's as close as you can get to flying without leaving the ground, or so that is the way it feels. If you have never ridden a motorbike, then that is the feeling that you are missing out on.

Of course children on a motorbike bring out an entirely new set of safety concerns that it would bring if it were an adult on the motorbike. Of course adults also have to follow safety rules but children are wards of the adults and it is their responsibility to see that the children all of safety rules while riding on a motorbike.

Accidents happen really quickly, even on four wheels. It seems that accidents can happen twice as quick when there are only two wheels involved. This is where the adult supervision comes in to help minimize the chance of an accident while the children are on the motorbike. Some children will give into all the safety rules that adult will give them if it means they can ride a motorbike. However some children will balk at any type of safety rule which they think will end of their enjoyment while on the motorbike. It is your responsibility as the adult to ensure that the child appears to all the safety rules that you carefully explain to them each time before they get on the motorbike

Of course there is the obligatory child sized helmet which the child must be wearing before getting on the motorbike. Never use an adult sized helmet on a child when the child is writing a motorbike or any other type of vehicle. An adult sized motorbike helmet is not meant for the head of a smaller child and will not offer proper protection in the event of an accident. You should also insist that the child wear pants and a long sleeved shirt to protect their delicate skin in the event of a motorbike accident. This will also protect the child skin in case they are riding on a trail and they come in contact with tree branches or thick weeds.

You can mix children with motorbikes and everyone have a good time and still remain safe if the adults in charge insist on the win over all the safety rules for riding the motorbike and that all the safety equipment is in place before the child ever sits astride the motorbike.
